Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the OSU Portfolio?
The portfolio documents students’ involvement throughout their time at OSU. By tracking these experiences, students will be able to highlight the skills they have acquired and use this information to further their professional career goals.
- How can I access the OSU Portfolio?
Students can find the OSU Portfolio on their OSU Canvas Page. Go to your “Account” and select “Folio” from the left-hand navigation bar.
- How is this different from a resume?
A resume is a document that summarizes your education, experience, and qualifications. The OSU Portfolio is an in-depth track record of all student involvement both inside and outside the classroom. The portfolio provides a comprehensive view of a student's academic and personal development, serving as a great resource for students to showcase their skills and achievements to potential employers. It provides a more thorough look at a student's qualifications than a resume would.
- Is this required for graduation?
Students are introduced to the OSU Portfolio in their first-year seminar class, and we encourage students to continue using the platform as a resource going forward. Throughout their time at OSU, students can add to their portfolio and reflect upon their development in the four Ideal Graduate competencies.
- Will student involvement automatically upload onto the OSU Portfolio?
No, students are expected to upload their own unique experiences to the portfolio. Once logged in, simply select “New Project” and create your portfolio entry.
- Can coursework from my classes be included in my experience portfolio?
Yes, students will have the freedom to choose what coursework they want to upload to their portfolio.
- Can I add an experience that did not occur at OSU?
Yes, students can add any experiences they feel are relevant to include in their portfolio.
- Can I include experience prior to when I began college or became a student at OSU?
Yes, the OSU Portfolio is a student-led and facilitated activity, meaning students can decide what they want to include in their portfolio.
- Who can see my profile?
Anyone you share your profile link with can view your profile. You can also customize what different employers see in your OSU Portfolio.
- Can I share my profile with potential employers or recruiters?
Yes. By providing a unique link, anyone with that link can view your portfolio. Additionally, you can download your portfolio to give employers a more in-depth look at your qualifications.
- Can I decide what is shown on my digital portfolio?
Yes. When creating a portfolio item, students can make items private if they do not want them shown on their portfolio. Once an item is made private, only the student will be able to see it.
