Extension
No single attribute more distinguishes the Land-Grant tradition than its commitment and calling to Extension – the active, intentional sharing of the new knowledge it develops with the communities it serves. Its roots can be traced back to 4-H and the agricultural Cooperative Extension programs birthed at the turn of last century – but they do not stop there. While our traditional strength in community programming will continue to impact rural and urban communities throughout our state, we will elevate and amplify the voice of Extension, using the Extension ethos and architecture to engage with the population of Oklahoma and sharing a broadening array of expertise as we listen carefully to our communities. Across all four Priority Areas of the University, Extension will serve as the mechanism by which we create value for the state and the nation.

Elevate and amplify Extension
Objective 1: Leverage OSU’s historic strength and powerful heritage in agriculture
to enable the addition of other vital capabilities for rural Oklahoma – including
economic development, workforce excellence and healthcare - across the extension platform.
Oklahoma State University will bring together its various extension efforts into a thoughtful, well-coordinated and system-wide apparatus that leverages all five campuses – and its presence in all 77 of Oklahoma’s counties – to position it within the institution for maximum impact on society. The University will appoint a champion to shepherd the OSU Extension effort and position it appropriately within the institution for influence and impact.
