The Master of Science in Nutritional Sciences, option in Dietetics Research, is designed
for those who desire to complete our accredited Dietetic Internship program while earning a Master of Science. Our graduate students gain a fundamental understanding and application of research- and evidence-based
recommendations used in dietetics and nutritional sciences. After successful completion
of the program, students will have experience translating research to more effectively
communicate with individuals and communities and be eligible to take the Registration Exam for Dietitians.
All students take core classes in macronutrients, micronutrients, advanced nutrition
therapy and nutrition research. Students may choose between a thesis or non-thesis
plan in this 36-hour program. Students also work with an advisor to design an individualized
program to fit their interests.
All graduate faculty possess a PhD and/or Registered Dietitian credentials and integrate
personal experiences and research into the curriculum. With more than 5,000-square feet of laboratory space, our students are involved in research opportunities that span basic science to community/public
health nutrition. The department’s robust research portfolio includes the role of
micronutrients in cancer, diet effects on the microbiome, metabolic risk indicators,
nutrition and fitness for military and first-responders and obesity prevention programs
and policy. Many faculty also serve with Oklahoma Cooperative Extension.
OSU students applying for pre-selection to the program must do so by December 1st.
Students applying through the Dietetic Internship Centralized Application Services
(DICAS) have a deadline of January 15th. Applicants will be notified of acceptance status
by March 1st.
