Master's in Public Health

The need for public health professionals has escalated dramatically since the the COVID-19 pandemic. Public health careers can be found in local, state, and federal government and non-governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations, businesses and corporations, hospitals and healthcare facilities and universities.  Public Health graduate students possess a passion to change their communities through health education and communication, as well as injury and disease prevention and intervention. The comprehensive curriculum equips students with multi-disciplinary, evidenced-based approaches and expertise.

Applied Student Opportunities

OSU’s graduate degree program in public health allows students to develop and practice public health skills while engaging in specific research of populations or diseases of interest. The Master of Public Health program at Oklahoma State University supplies students with the tools, knowledge and resources needed to successfully participate in public health research and practice. The program prepares students to engage with multiple sectors of the public health workforce. Our faculty have expertise and scholarly work across a variety of areas, including:

Curriculum

The MPH program focuses on training public health professionals to improve health and well-being of rural and underserved populations. The MPH has an embedded graduate certificate that can be earned as a stand alone certificate (12 hours) or on the way to the full graduate degree completion.

 

MPH Faculty

The MPH faculty is comprised of researchers and practitioners with a wide array of experience. This includes professors from several different disciplines and departments within the OSU system, as well as those working within large public health agencies (e.g. county and state health departments, community-based organizations), and those administering grant-funded public health projects. This experience is evident in the curriculum development and shared in the online classroom.

 

Admissions

Admission to the Master of Public Health program is competitive and based on a comprehensive “whole-person” evaluation.

  • Deadlines
    There are no official deadlines for the MPH program. OSU admits domestic students in all three semesters; Spring, Summer and Fall, on a ‘rolling basis.’ 
  • Cost

    Students enrolled in the Master of Public Health program will complete 42 credit hours during the course of their studies. Additional cost details and OSU’s tuition and fee estimator are available on the Bursar website.

  • Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)

    A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred however, applicants with a lower GPA are still considered for admission.

  • Personal Statement

    The personal statement provides an opportunity for the applicant to not only demonstrate skills in effective writing and communication but showcase his/her passion for the field of public health, facets of personal character, and readiness for entrance into a rigorous graduate program of study. The MPH program at OSU seeks to admit a diverse population of students who display a dedication to public health practice and an understanding of the role of public health practice in improving health outcomes.

  • Letters of Recommendation

    Two letters of recommendation are required from academic or work references.

  • Work/Volunteer Experience

    The field of public health is a corner stone of community service and outreach. Related experience serving rural populations or otherwise addressing needs for underserved populations is preferred. Related experience does not have to be within the field of public health but may demonstrate dedication to a topic or populations, skills in leadership, etc.
