As a geospatial specialist, you'll use spatial data for problem-solving that can’t
be done with traditional maps and charts. The GSIS program requires a strong mathematics
background and analytical skills.
Why GSIS at OSU?
Two state-of-the-art labs provide you with technologies such as Geographic Information
System (GIS) mapping, Global Positioning System (GPS) and remote sensing. We prepare
you for a training partnership involving faculty and students in Vietnam and a multi-year
project aimed at rebuilding Iraq’s GSIS infrastructure.
Students who complete our B.S. degree will have higher-order skills involving the
analysis of geospatial data and will be capable of communicating findings with larger
audiences. They will be well-versed in general GSIS knowledge and have the competency
necessary to utilize hardware and software for the planning, development and maintenance
of spatial and non-spatial databases. Our graduates enjoy successful careers in a

you with a specialized course of study involving geospatial technologies such as GIS,
GPS and remote sensing.
Courses to expect for this major include Digital Tools in Environmental Exploration,
Spatial Analysis and Remote Sensing.
Scholarships
Scholarships are available for prospective freshmen, transfer students, current students
and continuing students. When you complete the OSU admission application, you are
automatically considered for theuniversity levelscholarships. Students are also eligible for college levelscholarships within the College of Arts and Sciences after completing 12 hours at
OSU. Some exceptions may apply. See specific scholarships for criteria. The Geography
Department offers departmental level scholarships for eligible students.
