What is horticultural food safety?

The food safety option in horticulture offers classes on the principles and practices of minimizing potential food safety risks.

Why horticultural food safety?

The horticultural food safety option allows you to become certified in Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), Good Handling Practices (GHPs) and Preventive Controls for Human Foods, as well as be trained in the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized food safety programs.

Training

Students have the opportunity to become trained in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized food safety programs.

 

Real-world experience

Hands-on laboratories are included in many courses. You will have the unique advantage of utilizing the Greenhouse Learning Center, The Botanic Garden at OSU, and the Water Conservation and Irrigation Training Center. All students in the department are also required to complete an internship prior to graduation.
